Intergroup and Interfaith Relations
This region has been a leader in the County fostering intergroup, interfaith and coalition relationships. Many of our programs and projects include:
The African American–Jewish Dialogue Group
This coalition created in 1996 by the Marin Committee and leaders in the African American community to bring create bonds of friendship and understanding between the African American community and Jewish communities. This coalition has worked together to defeat the anti-affirmative action initiative, co-sponsor letters to our legislators calling attention to the rash of Church burnings. The AAJD sponsors a yearly Chanukah–Kwaanza Party bringing together the African American and Jewish communities to share the beauty of both holidays. The AAJD also sponsors an annual Juneteenth BBQ party at the home of a group member. Juneteenth (June 19) is the date celebrated in Texas to commemorate the last State in the Union to emancipate slaves.
The Hispanic–Jewish Women’s Group
The Marin committee has formed a Hispanic–Jewish Women’s group. This group sponsors dinner gatherings in the homes of members to discuss, support and share common issues.
Multi-Cultural Seder
The Marin Committee’s intergroup relations culminates in our annual Multi-cultural Freedom Seder. At this event 150 community leaders members attend representing the diverse population in Marin County. Using the Passover Seder as the framework participants share a Kosher Meal, relevant customs and celebrate freedom.
Interfaith
The Marin JCRC has been an active member in the Marin Interfaith Council. Many of our members have served as board members of this organization promoting understanding and cooperation amongst the faith community in Marin County.
Combating Anti-Semitism and Hate
The Marin Region was a leader in the genesis of a new organization in called the Marin County Human Rights Roundtable against Hate Violence. Members of the JCRC serve on the Steering committee of this organization with the Regional Director serving as the Chairperson.
