Half of fourth graders in the Bay Area read below grade level.
You can help.
Become a reading tutor.
JCL mobilizes the Jewish community to help ensure that all children lean to read by the end of third grade. Tutors focus on improving pupils' literacy and communication skills, increasing the desire to read and learn, and fostering greater self-confidence and self-esteem among students. JCL partners with public elementary schools and community centers in underserved communities.
The Coalition provides training and resources to prepare participants to provide high quality services to students. To find out more about JCL and to sign up for a training session in San Francisco, the East Bay or the Peninsula, click here.
"It's just great to see the drastic improvements in their reading levels as the year goes on."
