Statement from the JCRC:
SAN FRANCISCO — Michael Futterman, President of the San Francisco-based Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), the community relations arm of the organized Jewish community in the Bay Area, issued the following statement denouncing today’s suicide bombing in Eilat and extending condolences to the victims and their families:
“First and foremost, on behalf of the Jewish Community Relations Council, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims of today’s terrorist attack in Eilat and to their families. We pray for a full recovery for those injured in this heinous assault against civilians.
“The JCRC is outraged that this suicide bombing, the first in Israel in nine months, and the first ever in the normally tranquil city of Eilat, was praised by the Hamas-led Palestinian government. This palpably underscores that Hamas continues to be a terrorist organization, which supports the slaughter of innocents.
“We stand by the government of Israel and support its actions to keep Israeli citizens safe. We hope that in the midst of this violence, we do not lose sight of the urgent need to continue searching for peace.”
The Jewish Community Relations Council is the central public affairs arm of the organized Jewish community, representing more than 80 synagogues and Jewish organizations in the Bay Area on pubic affairs issues.
JCRC is a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties and the Jewish Community Federation of the Greater East Bay.
