Since the Israeli delegation's arrival in Haiti shortly after the country's 7.0 magnitude earthquake on January 12, 2010, over 300 men, women, and children have been treated at the Israeli field hospital. 90 operations have already taken place and five births have occurred - including one baby who was named Israel. The field hospital, said it's commander, Col. Dr. Itzik Kreis, "is currently the most significant medical center in the area struck by the earthquake."
Organizations on the ground are in desperate need of funding to continue to supply water, food, and emergency medical care to Haitians. The following organizations are raising funds to be sent to on the ground teams in Haiti:
The San Francisco Jewish Community Federation is donating $10,000 to IsraAID which consists of 16 non-governmental organizations that provide aid to developing countries. The Federation is also providing immediate aid through American Jewish World Service (AJWS), the American Joint Jewish Distribution Committee (JDC), and Partners in Health.
American Jewish World Service has set up a Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.
The American Red Cross has established a Haiti Relief and Development fund that provides emergency relief and recovery efforts to help those affected by the earthquake. The American Red Cross is also accepting donations via text message. Text 'HAITI' to 90999 to donate $10, which will be billed to your wireless account.
