Bringing Compassion into the Fire
Bringing Compassion into the Fire
A Compassionate Listening Workshop for the Jewish Community
“Among Jews there are two major tendencies in regard to our relationship with Israel, and perhaps each of us reflects both to some degree. There is the ‘prophet’ tendency that focuses on resistance to any injustice, and the ‘guardian’ tendency which seeks to protect the interests of the Jewish people and to protect Israel from all harm.”
—Rabbi David Jonathan Cooper,
Kehilla Community Synagogue
In this era of polarization, cynicism and anger, Jews with very different viewpoints, not only on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but also on the following issues, need to speak with, listen to, live in families and spend time in community without fragmentation, hostility and conflict:
- Religion and spirituality
- Neo anti-Semitism
- Zionism
Compassionate Listening™ is a communication practice and conflict resolution tool that has been used to work with Israelis and Palestinians for over 15 years on the ground in the Middle East. Led by certified Compassionate Listening facilitators Rachel Eryn Kalish, M.C., and Janet Tobacman, M.P.A. this one-day training will use the controversial topics (above) to practice Compassionate Listening™ among Jews, our partners and families.
The kickoff event (optional) to our training on Sunday will be a Havdallah Service Saturday night followed by a talk given by Tirzah Agassi, Martin Buber’s great granddaughter, on the power of I-Thou Dialogue work.
